Maltatal
The Malta Valley is a place of great natural beauty and a haven for those seeking to enjoy the benefits of the Alpine landscape. The valley boasts a large number of waterfalls, (including the highest single drop in Carinthia), the highest dam and reservoir in Austria, a range of walking and cycling paths to suit all levels of fitness, a lovely little river, quiet shady forests and sunny meadows both in the valley and up on the ‘alm’, the high pastures. Local providers offer the opportunity to try out a range of activities such as cycling, climbing and abseiling, bungee-jumping, canyoning and the like in summer, ice climbing, snow-shoeing, cross country skiing and tobogganing in the winter.

For the culturally minded the little town of Gmünd has a number of very interesting museums and galleries and hosts a variety of different exhibitions, concerts and other events throughout the year. Traditional festivals and celebrations abound and music is the centrepiece of them all, with the Town Bands of both Gmünd & Malta often performing.
Malta is also one of the gateways to the Hohe Tauern National Park – the largest in this part of Europe – with its interesting flora and fauna and geological history. This puts us firmly in the midst of both the full range of interesting events and festivities organised by the National Park Authority and the huge number of attractions accessible for free using the National Park Card Scheme, of which all our guests who stay 2 days or more are automatically members. The National Park has a firm policy of encouraging sustainable tourism and as such offers the opportunity for guests to get about by a variety of public transport services at very reasonable cost, including airport shuttle services, special walkers’ buses and special deals using train travel to and around Carinthia.
