Hikers
Walking and hiking are a very popular past time in the Alps of course – but amazingly it is still possible to walk in and around the valley and find yourself alone with nature for long periods of time. This is due to the huge choice of paths and routes available to you, many starting right from our doorstep, others accessible through the innovative ‘Wanderbus’ scheme recently introduced through the National Park. A new National Park website has started to list many of these, at the moment only available in German, and we have routes and notes for many more. For those wishing to explore the high mountain areas by using the wide range of Alpine ‘Hüttes’, it is possible to book accommodation for these from here once you have planned your route. For those wishing to explore more locally our recently acquired ‘SatMap’ system will come into its own, with routes downloadable and printable. The local Tourist Office also has a range of maps and information available and the National Park offers regular guided walks led by their own rangers, many of whom speak good English.
It is a well kept secret that now needs to be shared that Carinthia has perfect walking weather in the Autumn, when flights are cheap. Shuttle bus collection from the local airports, plus additional bus transport to a variety of good spots to start walks make for a ‘car-free’ option to enjoy the area at this time of year when visitors are at a minimum. Groups are especially welcome and we can offer special deals at other times too.
