Hiking
Firstly we have used the term "hiking" to cover what in England would be called hill walking. Only here our hills are a little higher! If you are looking for a gentle stroll, take a look at our walking page. Explanation over, let’s get down to some serious walking...
Maltatal is a hill walker's paradise; take a look at any large scale map of the area and you will find paths in every direction. All levels of walkers will find something for them, from the lower slopes to the highest peaks.
Whether you spend just a few hours or a whole day trekking, you will be surrounded by stunning views. Dotted around the hillsides you will find mountain huts, many providing welcome refreshments.
Further afield, the Nockberge National park (25kms away) offers a wide range of walking. The local ski resorts operate their lifts during the summer months, giving access to vast areas of beautiful walking country.
In summer the higher walks offer cooler air than the valleys. In spring and autumn our mild climate makes these times of year perfect for all but the highest peaks.
And we are talking high; The Hochalmspitze, which gives its name to the hotel, is 3360 metres high (11,023ft) and along with many local mountains can be tackled by any reasonable fit walker.
