There’s so much to see and do in our area, we can’t possibly fit it all onto one page, but at least we can give you a taster of what there is to choose from.
Top Tip: Get a Käernten Card. At €35 for a 2 week card (€14 for children) it’s a real bargain, offering free and reduced rate entry to hundreds of attractions and events across the region.
Local Attractions
The Porsche Museum at Gmünd – home of the Porsche prototype, as well as other examples of this classic vehicle from every decade since the 1940's.
Gmünd's Old Castle and Museums – depicting local history and culture from the Middle Ages.
The Kölnbrein Dam – a great feat of engineering reached by bus or car along the Malta-Hochalmstrasse, a journey with stunning scenery.
The Reisseck Funicular Railway - Europe's highest, privately owned narrow gauge railway.
Our very own Donkey Sanctuary. Guests at the Hochalmspitze enjoy free entry to this delightful attraction.
A Little Further Afield
The National Parks – The Nockberge National Park and the Hohe Tauern National Park both offer many outdoor attractions and activities for all ages, abilities and interests.
Austria's Lakes – Carinthia boasts many lakes, all offering beautiful scenery, great activities and plenty to see and do. Some of the nearest ones are: Millstattersee, Weissensee and Wörthersee.
Castles & Churches - There are just too many of these to name individually but you will find them everywhere you go. See Castles of Carinthia.
Steam Railway – John would never let you miss this one.
Minimundus – Carinthia’s famous family attraction.
