Winter Sports

In Austria we know how to enjoy our winter. Most winter sports resorts open in early December, with the season often lasting well into April. Skiing, Snowboarding, Tobogganing, Snowshoeing, Ice Skating, Cross Country Skiing are amongst the most popular activities on offer.

Our location means that we have a choice of three local ski resorts. Katschberg, Goldeck and Innerkrems. Slightly further away are Badkleinkirchheim and Nassfeld.

There are a number of small ski areas all around such as Gerlitzen and the Mölltal glacier. Each of the local resorts has a character all of its own.

Goldeck, the nearest, is very much for those in the know. It might not be big but it does boast the longest black run in the Alps. Situated directly next to Spittal an der Drau, the Goldeck ski area has become a hot tip amongst skiers. More than 30 km of diverse ski runs, catering for all skill levels can be found there. However alongside "classic" skiing, the Goldeck surprises with many innovations and ideas. There is, for example, a free ride area for the daredevils among the skiers and boarders and exciting events like the Champ or Cram on the longest black piste (8.5 km) And Goldeck offers Austria's only winter paragliding school.

Katschberg is much larger and is family orientated, although it also caters for the experienced. The Katschberg ski area boasts 60 km of perfectly groomed slopes of all levels and difficulties. On Mondays and Thursdays you can enjoy moonlight skiing from 7pm to 10pm on the floodlit Königswiesen slope.

Moreover, the Katschberg offers many more facilities for unlimited winter fun: cross-country trails, a floodlit toboggan run, ski schools, kids' club, spa, traditional mountain huts, horse-drawn sleigh rides and ice-skating rinks, plus a great number of events.

Innerkrems: Not only ski enthusiasts will enjoy the myriad of opportunities. Perfectly prepared cross-country skiing trails, a floodlit toboggan run, snowshoeing, curling, cleared hiking trails and a lot more.

Badkleinkirchheim, the home of Franz Klammer, probably the best known of all Austrian ski champions, is internationally known and needs no introduction to winter sports enthusiasts. More than 100km of well-groomed slopes served by 26 lifts, 700 snow-making machines covering 97% of skiable terrain, four ski schools, toboggan runs, cross-country ski tracks and winter walking trails, fabulous skiing and off-piste activities are all on offer there.

Nassfeld is the biggest resort in Carinthia and give a guarantee of snow throughout the season. With 110 kms of piste 30 plus lifts and the longest, and quickest, cable car in the alps. Nassfeld offers world class facilities to skiers of all levels of expertise.
